Restaurant Review: Andrene's Caribbean & Soul Food Cafe (Washington, D.C.)

I’ve found a new favorite Caribbean restaurant! Tucked away in the quiet Petworth neighborhood just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of busy NW Washington,DC is this gem.

Filled with island charm, the restaurant is more than your typical carry-out. Featuring a large countertop with a window view, you can indulge in savory food guaranteed to have you reminiscing on the last drop.

The owner also operates the restaurant, making sure every product is perfection. A two-time Howard alumn, she is familiar with the area and the patrons she serves. The hospitality definitely gives you southern charm!

Now, to the food! We tried a whole lot of food that left us wanting to come back again and again.

The whole red snapper (escovitch style) was fried to a crisp and made to order. I special requested the food to be drenched in jerk sauce and that just tied it all together. The fresh rice and peas, cabbage and plantains paired perfectly with this catch!

My friends opted for the oxtails, brown stew chicken, and jerk chicken. We soaked up the extra sauce with fresh baked cocoa bread, while downing a variety of Calypso lemonades.

Trust me! You won’t be disappointed if you stop in. Take advantage of calling in to order, or you’d get in there and want to eat the whole menu!

We are now loyal patrons.
